Parish hears it from pastor via bulletin about too much talking in church . . .
Not to mention carrying the sign of peace beyond liturgical limits.
This is taken from a church bulletin of November 26, 2017. It is edited here for clarity.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we come to the conclusion of our liturgical year, I have been informed and have also observed that there is too much talking in church before Mass and after receiving Holy Communion.
Before Mass, we should remain silent so that we can prayerfully reflect that when we are in church, we are in a sacred place.
After Communion, we thank God that we have received His sacred body and drunk His precious blood, which nourish us spiritually.
This also applies during the sign of peace, which is not a time to engage in conversation.
I know that many find silence "empty" and uncomfortable. Most of us experience a sort of discomfort in it and flee from that encounter.
But it is where we can meet our deeper selves, our conscience, fears, and hopes and the Word of God within us.
Today we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King, that honors the Son of God who died on the Cross and took away the punishment that was rightly ours.
Christ is not like any of the earthly kings that put heavy burdens on those they govern, but a King who came to live with sinners and died for them. What a privilege to have such King!
May God bless you.
A fitting reminder of what worship is.
